Tacos and Jello

This one will definitely be shorter than the last one.

Last night, at midnight, was El Grito, or Mexico's Independence Day. All of the students not from the United States helped set it up. There were free "tacos" and of course, music. We had to wait in a super long line, and I finally made the decision that it is not flip-flop season anymore. We (Lauren, Regina, Alex, Daniel, and Kelsey) met a student who just came from Central Africa. He was really cool but hard to understand :/. But then it was our turn to get food! If you read this mom, it was just like the mexican corn tortillas with rice beans, and carne asada that we had at the kayaking nationals in Georgia. I was in complete heaven! Food that tasted like home, and good music.
The Hispanic students then blared the music louder when midnight struck, and started dancing. They got a lot of people to join in and it was a ton of fun! We all danced :)

Today was the Jello-wrestling tournament. Regina picked me up and in the plaza was a giant wooden box thing (you will see it, Reg took pictures!) and inside of it sat a little blow-up kiddie pool. Alex was afraid of hurting his foot or something so we had to drop out. I must say I was a little bummed but it is good to know what to expect!
It was so entertaining! Two people of the same gender would go inside the ring and try to pin the other down. Red jello was flying everywhere and the people unfortunate enough to wear white later had pink clothing. You could smell the cherry scent in the air as you would try to dodge red blobs. I got some on my shoe. Wasps also took a fancy to the smell, and this made me jumpy to see them landing in peoples hair and such.
In a way I could see myself doing this. Never before this year, but somehow the thrill of the battle, of trying to win, but slipping, and getting pinned down. And then trying to get the other person off, trying to pin them down in red madness...
The girls of course were more courteous, and usually the heavier people won, until the more muscular took over :)

Bedtime!

Neil
